IACAT-Accredited Training in Ireland

IACAT’s minimum training criterias are in line with international best practice. A recognised Master’s degree in Art, Dance Movement, Drama or Music Therapy is required to achieve professional membership with IACAT. As well as proficiency in their art form, students are trained in psychology, psychotherapeutic theory, social/behavioral sciences and human development.

 

Creative Arts Therapists are trained in clinical practice, theory and research. This includes assessment, treatment, planning and delivery, and evaluation. Ongoing personal therapy and clinical supervision are an integral part of the training

If you are thinking of training in the any of the Creative Arts Therapies it is critical that your chosen course meets the following basic *criteria

  • Minimum 2 years full-time or 3 years part-time course

  • Personal Therapy Requirment

Music Therapy

MA Music Therapy at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, University of Limerick. 

 

 


Art Therapy

MA in Art Therapy at Crawford College of Art & Design, Cork Institute of Technology. 

 

 

 


Dramatherapy

MA Dramatherapy at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth, Co. Kildare. 

 

 

 

 


Dance Movement Therapy

There are currently no qualifying training courses in this area in Ireland.
Refer to the Association of Dance Movement Therapists in the United Kingdom 

 


 

*Note: if your course is not included here, you may still apply to the Registration Committee of IACAT to become an accredited member, as courses are reviewed on a continual basis. Please contact info@iacat.ie. Please note that it may take up to 16 weeks to process an application.
